Activities

We offer a range of activities, which can be tailored to suit your day and we are happy to adapt our activities for individuals or groups with Special Needs.  Our lessons are linked to the new national curriculum for History as we focus on interpreting evidence for the past and developing an understanding of chronology.

Activities can take place in your setting or you can choose to visit The Wormingford Community Education Centre on the Essex/Suffolk border, where activities could include a short walk to visit a Prehistoric landscape.

Prices

For a day with a class of 30 children: £290, this includes all materials except gardening gloves (which we ask the children to bring with them) and the photocopying of resource sheets (we ask to use the school machine.)

Half day sessions are also available: Price - £170.  For a full day with 2 classes (up to 60 children) we charge £390.  We charge for mileage if we have to travel over an hour.

We also offer Activity days for Museums with prices from £250 for the day (including all resources).

Below are a sample of the types of activity we offer; a variety of others are also available.

CSI style investigation

Using objects from either the present day or the past, we encourage students to develop their investigative skills. Through group discussion students can work out  who used the objects and what type of life they led.

Neolithic Round house or Round Barrow build

Student help to construct a Neolithic Round House or Round Barrow.  The structures can also be taken down again to find out what clues archaeologists use to find features from the past.

Responsible metal detecting

After an introduction to metal detecting and how it can aid the archaeologist, students work in pairs to detect and dig a selection of pre-hidden finds.  They are then shown how to identify, label and bag these up.

We ensure that students understand the importance of adopting a responsible attitude to metal detecting.

Dig in a Box Excavation skills

Learn how to excavate with a trowel, wash your finds and identify them using our Mini Museum.  Discover more about chronology and when your finds were buried.
