Something to make out of clay.
People have used the clay in the earth where they live to make pinch pots for thousands of years. Read on to find out how to make your own.
1. Firstly roll a piece of clay into a ball that fits into your fist.
2. Next holding the ball in your fist push the thumb of your other hand into the middle of the ball to make a hole.
3. Keep your thumb in the middle and pinch the pot between it and your fingers on the outside pressing carefully to make the inside of your pot bigger.
4. Make sure to turn the piece as you pinch. This will help you keep the walls an even thickness.
5. Finally gently pat the bottom on a flat surface to create a flat base.
Top tips:

Don’t make the sides of the pot too thin as it will collapse in on itself.

The pot will keep its shape when drying out if you put balls of newspaper inside.

Make a pattern on the outside by pressing string into the wet clay. Can you think of anything else you could use to pattern your pot?
